W Hotels to debut in Serbia with property at Belgrade Waterfront

BELGRADE (Serbia), September 24 (SeeNews) - Starwood Hotels & Resorts said on Thursday it has signed an agreement with Serbia's Belgrade Waterfront to debut its W brand with the W Belgrade hotel and The Residence at the planned real estate project in the Serbian capital.

Earlier this year, Serbia signed a deal with real estate developer Eagle Hills from the United Arab Emirates on a joint investment in the Belgrade Waterfront project, worth some 3.5 billion euro ($3.9 billion).

Starwood Hotels & Resorts said in a statement W Belgrade is scheduled to open in 2019.

“The Serbian capital is an exciting emerging city and a burgeoning tourist destination in Europe. We look forward to attracting both local and international guests to W Belgrade, which will be in the heart of Belgrade Waterfront, a spectacular new city hub,” Starwood Hotels & Resorts Europe, Africa and Middle East president Michael Wale said.

Centrally located on the 2 km public waterfront edge, Sava Promenade, and overlooking the Sava river, W Belgrade will feature 120 guest rooms and suites.

The Residences at W Belgrade will offer 165 branded residential apartments ranging from 55 to 100 sq m, spanning across two towers.

BW Residences, which is adjacent to W Belgrade Hotel & Residences, is scheduled for groundbreaking on September 27, 2015, kicking off the construction of the first building at Belgrade Waterfront.

The Belgrade Waterfront project should see the development of around 177 ha of land on the right bank of the river Sava into a mixed-use residential, office and retail scheme, offering 5,700 housing units, 2,200 hotel rooms and capacity to accommodate 12,700 office population.
