The Mexican government announced bids are being opened for various contracts, with bid and specifications packages issued during the latter half of 2015 for primary infrastructure projects.
The Secretary of Transport indicated some projects would begin later this year, principal infrastructure projects in 2016 and construction in the latter half of 2016.
Airport project director Gerardo Ruíz Esparza said the cost would be 6 billion (US usage, otherwise 6.000 million) US Dollars. The new airport location is contiguous to the current AICM / MEX airport, and both properties will contribute their space to the new airport (announced by President Peńa Nieto Sep 2014).
The new airport is to have double runways, and an initial annual capacity of 50 million passengers, and to open "20 October 2020".
