Another way to avoid the redeposit fee is to keep the F award, but accept "voluntary downgrade to J" on certain flight(s) where F is not available. You'll have to weight the value of the cash v the miles saved.
"Voluntary downgrade" is common enough on short regional components of a long haul F award.) If it is offered but happens to be unavailable, you'd be able to switch to F without charge should it open up later--unfortunately, there is no waiting list, you'll have to keep checking; EF can help.
