Lessons learned:
1) Hold onto the physical cards until you are completely cashed out / won't need them.
2) Keep receipts just in case a physical card is lost / stolen.
Now for the OP... he should tell H&R Block that the refunds the way they did it were not authorized and that he wants them to send payment via check.
