I always check out via phone. Look at your folio on the TV and ask them to make the proper adjustments. It sometimes takes a few minutes for the adjustments to happen, but once it's done you can just go straight to the taxi line.
Also, the hotel managers have no clue about the comps. It's best to talk to your host or a host on duty and ask them for comps based off your play. Make sure they don't use your comp dollars unless you don't care about it.
