Hi Perche,
I appreciate the time you took to post Thank Youi
I probably didn't clarify my first post sufficiently. When I said south, I meant south of Milan

We have been to Rome, Venice and Florence twice and Sorrento / Amalfi Coast once
I completely agree the cities I listed are way too many for trip of our length, I was just throwing out ideas , trying to get feedback , we are looking to have three stops max , unless there is something quick where we can stop on the way
Currently, my wife would like to stay in the Lake Como vicinity ( that's why I listed Bellagio and Stresa , we would probably only go to one of them)
Also she would like a few days in Cinque Terre and we are looking/thinking of a third city / area
As for driving, I wasn't sure about easy it would be to travel between the areas we want to see without a car, you have clarified that , and I will not look to get one unless I have a specific destination in mind, especially if there were one where the drive is very scenic
For our last stop I am toying with a side trip to the Dolomites, I have seen some reviews & pictures and it looks to be a very beautiful area
Thanks Again for your time and knowledge
Jerry
