Luckily being able to plan in advance for this I was able to book a few months in advance and successfully apply my GPUs to clear from coach to BusinessFirst (on the TATL UA legs) at booking.
What is it about BRU and upgrades? When I was using * to get back forth to Italy a few years back, I was always able to snag an up-grade to BRU at time of booking whereas if I went through MUC the upgrade was always confirmed after checking in, if at all. I guess it's still more or less the same.
