"Good food representative of Boston" could honestly get you several different things. The italian food in the north end is terrific, there are great seafood places, and there are great places that do a little bit of everything. There are several links in the New England Master Thread that could help you narrow down your choices.

For pastries/baked goods, you really can't go wrong with Mike's Pastry on Hanover Street in the north end. They have a cannoli that's to die for and several other yummy things. Another big advantage is that if you decide to go with an italian meal, you could walk to Mike's immediately after.
