My wife did the passport to Ottawa thing a few years back for her first trip to Vietnam (before the consulate office opened in Vancouver). She thought it was a bit of a hassle; mainly around having to courier her passport to Ottawa. But there weren't any issues though. This trip we just did the VoA option.
Thank you for your input! It's good to know there's an option in Vancouver too but as of right now the VoA is the backup plan.
