I don't know the exact reason. The university seems to have a strong aviation centre through, who I think conduct various studies and research tasks in air transport management etc. I presume BA have donated it as otherwise the a/c would only be going to VCV to be stored and scrapped. The fuel cost sending it to Cranfield is presumably much lower, and it's not worth much in scrap, so I assume the financial implication vs scrapping is minimal. It's nice to know its going to be put to good use, rather than sitting in a desert.
