so...uaflr...if my layover is less than 24 hrs, i should be allright then?

let's assume thai will NOT check my bags all the way through...does anyone know what happens to my bags if i land in hong kong, do NOT claim my bags (just don't want to deal with hassle of security, passport, etc...), and board my onward flight to chicago?
