Mini Trip Report

Thought I'd post a few comments and photos on our recent YYZ-TLV-YYZ experience with PE on the 787.

Outbound boarding was somewhat chaotic with a few dozen folks blocking the way when priority boarding was called. Was one of the first few on board so had a minute to look around and take a few photos. Row 13 and 14 do have more "foot" room than row 12 due to row 12 being a bulkhead row. When seated in row 13 or 14, you can put your feet under the seat in front of you leaving plenty of room to stretch out. Anyone 6'0" or taller might prefer rows 13 or 14 for that reason. Seats were very comfortable and recline was good. Unfortunately for those of us who wear bifocals/progressives, when the seat in front of you is fully reclined, the angle of the IFE screen is such that it is difficult to see (the screen only tilts a few degrees).

Views from window seats on all three rows are good, not a lot of difference in the view between rows. Even row 14 is just at the leading edge of the wing, so you have a pretty good view down from the front of the two windows (with a massive engine in sight). Spent most of the flight at 41,000 feet.

There is no "dedicated" PE lavatory, the curtain closing PE from the lavatory/galley area forward of the cabin is between the lavatory door and the cabin. Once you pass through the curtain to the lavatories between business and PE, you can cross through the galley to use either lavatory.

Food was good, although Mrs. Galawdawg and I were disappointed that they ran out of the Alberta Beef Tenderloin before they reached our row on the outbound leg (most of the PE cabin were LMU, we were the first to book PE for this flight). However, they did offer the other business class entree as a substitute, so we still had two choices and we appreciated that accommodation. The menu was different on the TLV-YYZ leg. We received orange juice or mineral water after boarding and a drink was offered before meal service began. We then were offered a hot towel and the tray table was covered with a table cloth. Meal service began about an hour or so after departure. Snacks were in the galley mid-flight outbound with orange juice and coffee available. Breakfast outbound was served about two hours before arrival. On the return, a snack was served mid-flight (an egg salad/cream cheese sandwich which seemed to be entirely cream cheese) and light lunch about two hours before arrival.

Windows automatically dimmed at certain times during both flights as ceiling lighting colors changed, but I could still adjust the window tinting throughout the flight if I didn't like the "preset" dimming level. I managed to get about five hours sleep outbound.

A fantastic flight experience, arrived feeling much better than expected after such a long flight, and it was a good value for the price paid.
