Aren't some of these services, just Qantas making up for there canceled services they announced recently?
Qantas seems to trying very hard to save them self in the NZ market lately the amount of Qantas billboards is getting over kill.
Looking at AKL-SYD on 20/12/14 (Last Saturday before Christmas) Qantas still has an bit of catcup to NZ

QF142 - 738 -168pax
QF182 - 738 -168pax
QF144 -738 -168pax
QF46 - 332 - 235pax
Total: 907 pax
NZ101 - 763 - 230pax
NZ103 - 789 -302pax
NZ119 - 772 - 304pax
NZ705 - 320 - 168pax
NZ708 - 320 - 168pax
Total: 1272 passengers
So at the moment NZ have 265 seats more than Qantas
