At least in the 747 there's a bit of space between you and the other guy, but the last time it happened to me was in the 333, where the seating is of course different. I always sit in 10G and the guy beside me in 10D whipped off his socks even before the cabin doors were closed. At least he covered them with a blanket after a while, but he must enjoy the experience because he waited until we were at the gate at HKG with the engines off before he reluctantly put them on again.....
