There is a lot of places to see : the door of Brandenburg, the Fernsehturm, the Museuminsel (an island with 5 museums), the zoo (you need the day to visit if you want take your time, it's really great), the castle of Charlottenburg...

A hostel is the best possibility. It's not too expensive and you can meet people.
