The issue is that supposedly @AskAmex are their best CSRs and when even they are completely untrained, clueless, and slightly rude really bad things will happen with EMV. I support transitioning to EMV as much as anyone, but there definitely needs to be training for CSRs. The claim the cards wouldn't work in the US shows not only a bit of a lack of training but also a bit of stupidity on the part of the CSR. Obviously American Express would not issue cards in the US designed not to be able to work at merchants in the US. Had the CSR had basic common sense he would have realised that.
