Hate Delta and have since a bad 2010 flight to Dublin. As a result, I'd let the few miles in my account expire. But 1000 free miles is not a horrible thing so I just opened a new account (since there are no miles in the other account, I don't care about any problems merging; besides, I've long since forgotten the password for the old account), and I'll now have an account with some miles in it if I ever need to transfer some MR points should somehow DL have a flight I need.
Options are always good.
