I've not seen a reliable named source for those altitudes and the Malaysian authorities have publicly questioned the reports. Even if those heights were correct, haven't some pilots speculated that throttle hold on the autopilot could account for this in an "unmanned" situation.
I suspect until the wreck is found we'll never know the truth, I just hope it's found quickly and the relatives don't have the agonizing wait that occurred with the AF crash.
