What I mean is, an actual verification that it required the cash advance PIN: Ie, a simple (but slightly time consuming) test of entering 0000, seeing it doesn't work, entering 9999, seeing it doesn't work, then entering the cash advance PIN, and seeing it does work.

I have still not heard of a single experiment. And I have also heard here and there of other people (of course at other locations!) getting 0000 or 9999 to work.

So I see no evidence that it's really the cash advance that does it. Just a theory that it's better than 0000 / 9999...

But correct me if I'm wrong, please.
With the Bank of America TravelRewards card, I tried 0000, 9999, and completely random numbers in Zurich. All except my PIN failed. My PIN *usually* worked. And I changed whether my PIN was the 3rd number tried or not (to see if it "gave up" and just automatically authorized the transaction).
