Improbably great! Econo Lodge in Valentine, Nebraska

Believe or not, the Econolodge in Valentine, Nebraska, was a real gem!

One doesn't usually put the words "gem" or "great" alongside "Econo Lodge" but in this case, it is merited.

Had some expiring Choice Points and used 8000 to redeem a room during a cross-country road trip with a friend. I really like it that the same 8000 points could redeem a regular room or a suite, and I reserved us a two bedroom, two King suite. The room was immaculate, the beds very comfortable, the high speed internet speedy enough that Amazon Prime movies could be streamed with no problems. Heat worked very well despite it being well below zero out. Breakfast was very good, with what was clearly homemade gravy for the biscuits. Staff was very nice and helpful.

Only minor glitches were the lack (not unusual in this old a property) of easily available electrical outlets and water pressure that was so high -- combined with a shower head that only did "needle spray" -- that it actually was painful.

You aren't going to find four-star properties in the Nebraska Sandhills; but there are several highly rated viz. TripAdvisor motels in Valentine (and one can tell that these are real reviews) and the Econo Lodge is well worth a return if you're passing through this rather desolate part of the country.
