I got the same statement last night. Citi confirmed that they have the correct AA# and told me that it may take a couple of months to link up with AA. Never happened to any of my Citi AA cards before.
I wouldn't listen to Citi at this point with the AA points. Contact AAdvantage directly and start a case. Your miles should post soon after that.
