You might be able to get into the Arctic Ocean in Kotzebue, but then again it might just come to you.

Probably I'd rent a car and take the Richardson Hwy to Valdez, one of the most beautiful drives in the state. You could then take the ferry back to Whittier - it's a great loop trip from Anchorage.

Have you done any flightseeing trips previously? If not, maybe now? IMO getting up in the air in a light plane in Alaska is something every visitor should do at some point - you don't see that much from the road system.
