I too have informed friends and colleagues about the impending change. However, I don't see that UA has any obligation—ethical or otherwise—to pre-announce such changes. Moreover, I think it is foolhardy to "burn" miles down to zero. Even after February 2014, MP miles are very valuable and should be expended wisely for deliberate purposes.
