I know your parents are older, but depending on how long your trip is you just may be able to do both. I used to do inland to San Diego all the time within a single day and if you have an extra night or two you can easily do both.
Also, Renaissance Esmerelda is a beautiful property - I highly recommend it. I went there a few years ago with the family and everyone from the kids (8-13 years old) to the grandparents had a great time there.
