Not sure what it means to be put on a "waitlist" in this sense - you're not actually confirmed on CX?
I had the exact same issue for my in-laws in Jan, but on a paid ticket, and they were able to get us on NH w/o any issue (probably helped they're both 1KMMs).
CX is a nice option though!
