Upcoming trip this week to PVG via LAX. As far as I can tell, we won't be able to OLCI, but would like to access the CX lounge to hang out a few hours before the scheduled departure time of 9:45 pm. AA.com says ticket counter hours are 3:00pm to 5:30pm for ORD flight only and 6:45pm to 9:15pm for LAX only. We won't have bags to check, so the question is: would we be able to get BP at the counter during the ORD check-in times?
Other threads on FT only address the question of checking bags during specified times and leave open the possibility of picking up BP early. Anyone with recent experience?
Don't see why not. AA is probably operating with a skeleton crew at PVG and rather than staff the counter 3:00pm-9:45pm they cross utilize the staff. Not unheard for people to arrive at airports many hours before their flights for a variety of reasons they should be able to process your check-in.
