It was quite a long conversation (must have been 15-20 mins). The "specialist" tried real hard to engage me and find at least something else I valued about the card besides the annual free night certificate. After staying firm, he finally relented and offered up the Cat 1-4 cert probably fully expecting that I'd turn it down since I had already mentioned that I am finding the Cat 1-5 useless. Since I could immediately see a trip I could use it on, I grabbed the offer.
If your AF is coming due soon, there is absolutely no harm in calling and making some kind of fuss to see what they may throw. I am Lifetime Plat and have no further use of the Elite nights but I'm not sure if he could see my Marriott status to verify that I was saying the truth or bluffing.
