Many of my loyalty cards have been backed up by iPhone apps so I don't have to carry the plastic.
I've carried a men's style wallet for years as it has no frills and no extra thickness.
My husband spends a lot when he buys a wallet. I've beneffited from his 'failures' (the wallets he doesn't like) and as is so typical so often, the men's wallets are much higher in quality.
