Learnt it the hard way. A few times the cashier will not even try to load the moment they know you are using a gift card to load it.
Some cashiers don't understand the difference between a TARGET gift card and then a Mastercard/Visa gift card. I just tell them it doesn't say Target on the GC so it's not a Target GC. Usually they just stare at me and I begin swiping if they stop me. Or I swipe it while they're mumbling something.
