45 minutes is enough time. They also have several flights from DFW to JFK as DFW is an AA hub. If you want to be extra prepared, you can look up other alternative flights, so in case you are late and miss the connection, you can rush to the gate of the next departing flight. As swag said, I'd be more worried if it were an international connection because of the paucity of those flights.
