I don't understand your warning - what do you lose? You can't UuA from WT to CW. And in my recent two attempts I was firmly told I couldn't AUP from WT to CW either, even if AUPs are available from WT to WT+ and from WT+ to CW.
So I can't see any way to get from WT to CW without paying the fare difference and change fee.
I would jump at a WT+ POUG for £199 on LHR-SFO. I got offered WT-WT+ AUP from LHR-DXB last week for £209 and that's half the flight time.
