lewende, I had the 'one-category-room-upgrade' in mind. Hilton Berlin, e.g. has been very clear to me (and fellow FT according to their posts) that an upgrade to executive floor is no longer done when Golds book basic room. - I also thought of the shortenings in the EL (no more wine after 20.00hrs or so), but that applies to every guest in the EL)

Thanks for the explanation. However, this is hardly the case for golds in the US or China. Golds routinely get what they had before the policy change (e.g., EL access, more than 1 level upgrade - although this is more common in China) - typically almost the same benefits as diamonds, upgrade and EL access wise.
