Would the same issue occur if a flight were missed and someone were manifested as a transit pax? Couple years ago I missed a connection at CDG to ATL and passed through immigration to get a quicker resolution at the Air France ticketing office. No issues. When younger I also entered Germany while waiting for a connecting flight just to get the stamp and say I had "been" there. Yeah I know, kinda pointless, but I was young and dumb just like everyone else. I told the immigration officer what I was doing and had no issues.
