29 Minute Connect time in LAX???

COdbaUA just changed the flight time of an upcoming award flight EWR-LAX-OGG -- to a 29 minute connection time in LAX, and of course...the OGG flight is the last one of the day.
I'm booked into IN on both segments, and while there is an earlier flight that would give me about 3 hours in LAX; there is no IN availability...on hold now trying to get them to open it up for me. Do you guys know of any rules I can point to to help make this happen if they hassle me?
Been on hold now with the 1K desk, waiting for the rep to get a supervisor on the phone.
Also, I'm forced to move from a lie-flat 752 to a 738....not cool United...not cool.
I'm half tempted to have them put me into ON out of JFK and just eat the 10K miles....
