Interesting if you compare this to Singapore Airlines.
They have a config with only C on the upper deck:
http://www.singaporeair.com/pdf/seat...-upperdeck.pdf
86 seats on the upper deck, 20 of which are in the are LH uses for F.
SQ has 66 seats where LH has 92 seats.
Look at Qantas:
http://www.qantas.com.au/infodetail/...2J32PY332Y.pdf. They have Business and Eco on the upper deck.
Just comparing the middle section: 7 x 6 (=42)seats on QF, 9 x 6 (=54) seats on LH
Korean
http://www.koreanair.com/local/na/gd...f/au_of_10.jsp Only Business on the upper deck, 94 seats, 22 in the space LH uses for F. Korean has 72 seats where LH has 92.
China Southern
http://mercury.csair.com/en/travel_g.../target11.html has business eco on the upper deck. For comparison: They have 70 seats total, of which 50 are in the second section (LH has 54) (staggered layout similar to LH, but wider seats, each seat has isle access)
Malaysia
http://www.malaysiaairlines.com/cont...ce/A380_lo.pdf has 66 seats on the upper deck (eco in the last section). 48 seats are in the middle section (LH 54)
Air France
http://www.airfrance.co.uk/GB/en/com...lan_cabine.htm has 80 seats in the front two sections, 54 in the second section (same as LH)
Emirates
http://biztravelguru.com/blogs/busin...p-released.jpg (could not find the seatmap on their website) has 72 seats, 42 in the middle section (vs 54)
Ranking by space (did not look at the size of the galleys etc, so the actual number could be a bit different.
How much more space does a business seat use compared to LH:
39 % - Singapore (92 vs 66)
28 % - Qantas (54 vs 42)
28 % - Emirates (54 vs 42)
27 % - Korean (92 vs 72)
12 % - China Southern (54 vs 48)
12 % - Malaysia (54 vs 48)
00 % - Air France
Frankly i don't understand LH and their strategy. Why install a new product which from day one is already inferior to other airlines in terms of space?
