Happened to me in a small guest house in Sofia Bulgaria. I was supposed to go and meet some friends for drinks around 9:00 p.m, but found out that I was locked in. As I was getting ready to leave, I had heard some footsteps in the hallway. I banged on my door askiing for help until the couple, an American fortunately, responded to the noise. They went and got the housekeeper/concierge/recpetionist/handyman to come and let me out.

MY wife was trapped in an elevator one morning and at a suburban Washington, D.C. Amtrak Station, one her daily trip to Wilmington, Delaware when going to work. She was going to work half day as we had to fly to Paris from IAD that evening. Firemen came and rescued her. Instead of asking her how she was doing, or if it messed up her plans, what Amtrak wanted from her was to sign some papers to the effect that she was OK.
