Did BA tell you why you could not be rebooked? Which booking class was it booked in?
If your ticket was truly fully flexible, then it sounds odd that BA could not rebook you. However, if your ticket was semi-flex, then there may have been a rule that the ticket becomes invalid the moment you no-show, like this:-
PASSENGERS WHO NO-SHOW FOR A FLIGHT WILL BE CONSIDERED AS A CANCELLATION AFTER DEPARTURE AND WILL RECEIVE NO REFUND OF THE FARE. CHANGES WILL NOT BE PERMITTED.
