Both my wife and I are registered for all 3 promos, and we already have 3 real stays planned, but I don't know how to justify this to my dear parents who I and my children are staying with: "Mom and Dad, I will stay at an airport hotel tonight, 25 miles from your house, while the kids are with you and my wife is back home" - this may meet some resistance
I see no reason you have to sleep in the hotel. Just be there in person to check in to satisfy that part. If you know a day you will be close to the airport, just stop by check in and leave. If you are worried about checking out, you could call the next day and say you were late for your plane and didn't have time to pick up the bill and see if they can can email it to you or whatever.
If you and your wife also will be making real stays of longer than 1 day, I'd suggest booking separately under each of your accounts.
