Can you get seats RAR-AKL? That would mean forking out less money (e g PPT-RAR instead of PPT-AKL, or you might even find availability RAR-LAX if you don't want to stop over in AKL). It would also mean the opportunity to spend time in another beautiful country (and one that is a lot cheaper than Tahiti).
