I gave it a shot yesterday running searches, never once seeing the promo code box. So I contacted customer service. Here is their reply:
"... The promotional code is added during the booking path on the final check out page. There will be a drop down box before you enter your billing information to input a promotion code if available. Please know, not all hotel properties will accept promotion codes. Thank you for using Orbitz."
Ridiculous.
