maybe I'm really naive (OK I AM really naive) BUT

I had a fantasy that the GLBT board would be a place not only where FT'ers could arrange parties/meetings etc., but where they could ask questions like
- is there a problem in pensiones in Naples if my partner and I ask for a double bed
- where are the good lesbian bars in ___(FILL IN THE TOWN)
- where are some good places in Asia for same-sex partners to travel?

With the WEALTH of travel information FT has in its collective membership, I have no doubt that these questions and others could be answered well by FT'ers with DIRECT experience in the area or issue. There ARE issues germane ot the GLBT community that would be MORE problematic asking in a general (SF, Paris, UAL) board,.With a repsonsible moderator , postings like Shauna's could be easily shut down /deleted etc if there were one or two moderators and one board.
Maybe it's 'cause I live in SF, or that my brother was gay, or "some of my best friends" are gay and lesbian, that I just don't see the big deal. The issues that GLBT FT'ers face, in my view, are more similar to ssues that Women travelers face and to my knowledge there hasn't been a huge outcry that there is a women traveler board.

As for other subgroups, such as ethnic subgroups, if there was an interest in one , then why not? I don;t see other groups clamoring for one but if there is an interest, why not express it and see what happens? I personally think that other subgroups MAY not always have the same kinds of travel issues and potential for explosiveness in a travel setting as members of the GLBT community. But if other groups want a Travel Forum for their specific issues - Idon't see it as a problem. It certainly wouldn;t get LESS attention than some of the FT TRavel Board fora do now....anyone checked "cruises" lately???
