Supposedly the Australia- Argentina market is one of AR's few profitable routes ( no, I cannot prove this) . With QF abandoning BUE completely and AR offering a crap product ( and only able to offer it non-stop in one direction) I could imagine that a 2 to 3 times weekly flight timed to fit connections from SYD/BNE/MEL would be worth a feasibility study. I accept that the Argentinian economy is a drawback, as is the lack of onward connections from EZE as most regional flights have shifted to AEP, nonetheless, if route planners at NZ do not at least look at this route to see whether it makes sense they would be negligent.
