Well not for some people but for exactly the passengers DL tries to attract so hard: Infrequent travelers and tourists. Christ, they failed so bad in Germany with that policy, why do they think it is better to reinstate it? A couple of years back, when the FRA market was hurting, they sold rail/fly tickets from Berlin. So instead of taking the $700 a/i r/t from TXL, you got a rail ticket for going to FRA and take that flight for a total of $680. the worst part is:
PEOPLE DID THAT!
They spend 5hrs in a train and had extra expenses for food, etc. to save $20! Those people are out there and they are more than us. Probably that is why DL feels so attracted to them.
The crowd they are seeking is bad for business because they ONLY buy below sustainability and simply won't go if it's too expensive and trying to compete with the super low costs is no good idea in the long run (when you don't want to lose your network).
