Here are my observations from the last time I went through JFK in June 2011. A while ago, I know, but I'm sure the checkpoint layouts are still the same. It is worth noting that on the day I was there, every single BKSX in the T2/T3 complex was roped off all afternoon. Not sure what the case is there these days.

In some instances, I've listed the gate that the checkpoint is closest to. All gates are accessible from all checkpoints.

T2 - Only one checkpoint... Three lanes: WTMD/BKSX combo, WTMD-only
T3 - Several different checkpoints...
In the Pan Am Worldport, Three lanes: WTMD/BKSX combo, WTMD-only
In the 70s addition:
  • Gate 15, Two lanes: WTMD-only
  • Gate 12, Two lanes: WTMD-only
  • Gate 5, Three lanes: WTMD/BKSX combo, WTMD-only

The ideal option is to use the gate 12 or 15 checkpoint. In the 3-lane checkpoints, the WTMD-only lane will be the last to open.
