It would only be hit or miss if you let them push you around. If you have a different AmEx card open, and it is within 60 days of the fee posting, you should get back at least $375 (pro-rated 2 months off).
They may try to claim that in the T&C it is 30 days from posting or 60 days from applying, in hopes of keeping the fee, but if you put them on the spot and ask them where in T&C they will have no answer. Because it is not discussed anywhere; not pro-rating, not deadlines, not anything. There is not a word in T&C covering what happens to the fee if you cancel your card.
