one of the most famous was the clark st motel across from the pentagon. parking lot packed all day.(visible from I395.
we have used day rooms in London, Paris, bologna and probably a few other places i do not recall. not for layover, but when after an overnight flight, room for long stay was not available until 3pm or so.
