I have always asked. I smile, ask politely, and the glass shows up. Nice with the oatmeal and OJ, but NOT too many bubblies as it will creep up on you.

I have always found that politeness, please, thank you and common-sense civilities have always broken through any perceived "grumpiness". Even asking "Are you OK as you look a bit tired or frazzled." helps things - followed by a genuine smile and a thank you.

There have been times when "management" was helping the staff and brought me the glass, even though they were obviously busy.

I am always pleased to fly BA and always thank staff for their attention and help. ^
