The "fertilizer" smell is from dairy farms in the area, and is year-round, depending on the wind direction. I never smell it inside, but it could be a problem if you want to spend time at the pool.
Although not spectacular, I don't have any complaints about the rooms (I was there last night). The new tower rooms are a bit small, but nicely appointed. I don't smell any "new carpet" smells, but it's now been open for a few months so the smell may have dissipated.
