interesting different answers - I also tried such an upgrade with cash / credit card last year and I was told that this is not possible at CX
Same for flights from HKG to HAN with KA (here I asked at the boarding gate) ... there I was also told that the only possibility would be to cancel my ticket and I have to buy a regular business class ticket
