Why on earth is this even news? Do they report every time a construction person is injured in LA?
I could see someone mishearing "somebody got shocked" as "somebody got shot". Add an EMS dispatch to the terminal and you've got confirmation. And while I agree that they should have checked their facts better, given the choice between accidentally crying wolf and being late to a story, news directors will cry wolf every time. I would guess that once the story was posted, there wasn't much they could do about it except correct it.
